The staff at the care facility will contact you to notify you, if you were not already present.

The staff will notify the doctor for you, and they will also want to organise for a funeral director to transfer your family member into their care as soon as possible.  The is necessary as nursing homes and aged care facilities differ from hospitals, in that they do not have a mortuary.

You may have been asked to provide details of your chosen funeral director, during the admission process.  This is necessary so that in the event of death occurring when you cannot be contacted, the staff will be able to contact the funeral home, and make immediate arrangements.

The staff will provide your contact details to the funeral home, and they will liaise with the attending doctor to issue a ‘Cause of Death Certificate’ (which is different to the ‘Death Certificate’ issued by your State or Territory’s office of Births, Deaths & Marriages.).

If you require the services of a ‘Funeral Director’, please use our Business Search facility.
