Keeping a grave or memorial well maintained may not simply be a matter of personal choice.

It may be a condition of your agreement with the cemetery/crematorium authority, that an ongoing maintenance/refurbishment fee be paid annually.

Check your agreement with the authority for more information, and also their rules and regulations on what you can and can’t place in and around the grave/memorial site.

If an item doesn’t meet with the authority’s criteria, they will probably reserve the right to have it removed. This can be distressing, so it is wise to be informed of the rules of the cemetery/crematorium and adhere to them.

Some smaller cemeteries do not have an ongoing maintenance programme, and you will be responsible for maintaining the grave.

If this is the case and you find it difficult to provide the maintenance, contact your local council to be referred to businesses that will provide this service.
